To be a member of The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), you have to be board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The ASPS requires that its member surgeons operate only in accredited OR facilities.
Many surgery centers seek AAAASF accreditation, which is the most commonly-held accreditation by office-based cosmetic surgery centers. In addition, our office has obtained Joint Commission accreditation, which is a national organization that accredits hospitals and surgery centers.
Both the design of the surgery center and the equipment we have installed represent an effort to create an environment of comfort and safety that exceeds what is available in the hospital-based and hospital–affiliated ORs. Dual accreditation is important for our existing patients and to prospective patients as they can feel assured that they will continue to receive their care in the safest possible setting. AAAASF, Joint Commission accreditation, and also the use of board-certified MD anesthesiologists, are all important parts of that process.
